The author of this work, Charles A. Beard, was an author, professor at Columbia University and controversial historian. He wrote extensively on the founding fathers, his most notable work being An Economic Interpretation of the Constitution of the United States (1913). Beard reinterpreted popular historical narratives through an economic lens, leading to great controversy about his conclusions. Beard died in 1948.
