First edition of Armadale, in two volumes, by Wilkie Collins, published by Smith, Elder and Co. of London in 1866.

Octavo, [two volumes], [viii], 304pp; [iv], 372pp. Bound in three quarter brown morocco with green cloth boards, title in gilt on spine, raised bands. Bound by Zaehnsdorf. Lacking half-titles. Top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. Previous bookseller’s description and tipped-in illustration of Broad Street on front flyleaf. Solid binding, free of any notable foxing. Both volumes with tissue paper reinforcement to hinges. Complete with twenty illustrations by George H. Thomas, including nine full-page illustrations in Volume I and eleven in Volume II. This work was first serialized in The Cornhill Magazine, from November 1864 – June 1866. The first publication of Armadale in book form appeared in June, 1866 and was followed by a second and third edition the same year. The first American edition appeared in 1866, published by Harper & Brothers of New York.
