Octavo, xvi, [2], 226pp. Green cloth, title printed in brown on spine, illustration of an animal printed on front cover. Maps on endpapers. No additional printings on copyright page. Toning to top edge of cloth, light dusting to top edge of text block. Light toning to endpapers, spine ends lightly bumped, faint dampstain to upper corner of back cover. Binding solid. Clean text, except for some mild foxing to the illustrated plates at the end. Gift inscription on front flyleaf. In publisher’s original dust jacket, retail price of $4.50 on front flap, overall toning but front panel bright, chipping and tears along top/bottom edges with some loss. A nice example of the author’s account of his years spent in Honduras and Nicaragua.

Archie Carr (1909-1987) was an American herpetologist, ecologist and conservationist. He taught zoology at the University of Florida, and he was a leading authority on sea turtles. The Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge in Florida is named for him. This refuge protects the nesting sites of nearly one-fourth of all sea turtles in the United States.
