Octavo, 281pp. Beige cloth, title in blue on spine, red arcs stamped across spine and front cover. No additional printings listed on copyright page. Slight lean to text block, faint toning to endpapers, separation at rear hinge, top edge dyed red, a very good example. Small stain near bottom of spine. Bookseller’s label on rear pastedown endpaper. Lacking the dust jacket. Signed on the front free endpaper “To Rummy and Betsy and our Williamsburg Trip / Dawn” with a drawing of three wine glasses below signature. Includes laid-in real photo postcard written to Rumsey Marvin from Powell, postmarked Dec 27 1963.
Dr. Walter Rumsey Marvin (1900-1980) was the Executive Director of the Ohioana Library Association from 1946 to 1965. He was born in New Jersey and served in the Navy before moving to Columbus, Ohio. Beulah “Betsy” Hoagland Marvin was his wife.
Dawn Powell (1896-1965) wrote consistently throughout her life but did not receive many accolades until after her passing. Powell was born and raised in Ohio, eventually moving to New York City to live in Greenwich Village with her husband and son.
