Octavo, [4], 392pp. Three-quarter vellum with marbled paper-covered boards, title in gilt over red leather spine label, decorative gilt bands and embellishments. Sprinkled edges. Mild foxing throughout, a few light finger marks and stains to pages. Upper corners bumped. Board edges and tail of spine rubbed, with some minor loss. Light shelf wear to covers, mild soiling to spine. A nice example.
This work was first published serially in the New Monthly Magazine from July 1840 to November 1841. Its first appearance in book form was in 1841 as a three-volume set published by Henry Colburn of London.
