Octavo, [three parts], [10], 142pp; viii, 86pp, [2]; [54], 122pp, [2]. Full calf, title in gilt on spine, raised bands. Wear to spine, title partially chipped, spine rebacked with reinforcement to both hinges. Bookplate on front endpaper. A few points of mild toning, internally clean. Complete with three fold-out maps, tissue repair to verso of Map 1, closed tear at hinge of Map 3, all clean, near fine examples.
The three maps include: The Plan for Sailing for the discovery of a Passage into the South Sea (1631-1632); A Plan of the Harbour & City of Cartagena; and A Map of Carolana and of the River Meschacebe.

This scarce collection of three works united under one title was compiled by Daniel Coxe, the highlight being Part III, A Description of the English Province of Carolana; one of the first English works to describe the Southern United States. Coxe boldly asserted the English rights to control of the entire gulf region of the southern colonies, against competing claims by the French and Spanish. Coxe draws on his 14 years exploring the southeastern United States; all the lands claimed by his father in his time as Proprietor under the Crown. The other two parts of this work include: The Dangerous Voyage of Capt. Thomas James (1740) and An Authentick and Particular Account of the Taking of Carthagena by the French, in the Year 1697, by Jean-Bernard-Louis Desjean.
