Both Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Colin Powell were featured speakers at Peter Lowe’s “Success 1996” seminar. Since that time, Abdul-Jabbar has consistently referenced General Powell as an inspiration for his philanthropic work. In June of 2000, Abdul-Jabbar stated his inspiration for A Season on the Reservation came from “Colin Powell’s call to give back to the community.”
