This detailed account of the life of the first Chief Justice won Beveridge a Pulitzer Prize for Biography. His final years were spent writing this book, which worked to demystify the early life of President Abraham Lincoln. After Beveridges’ untimely death, the manuscript was handed over to Carl Sandburg for completion.
