Octavo, [8], 358pp. Red and black cloth, title on spine in silver. Stated “Published in June 1938” on copyright page, with no additional printings listed. Solid text block, faint toning to endpapers, light rubbing to edges, black dyed top edge, a near fine example. In publisher’s first state dust jacket, $2.50 retail price on front flap, faint toning to spine, light wear to flap folds, edges, and spine, a near fine example. Housed in a custom blue cloth clamshell.

Graham Greene (1904-1991) was an English writer. He wrote serious Catholic novels and, as he called them, “entertainments” (thrillers) like Brighton Rock. Greene was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature twenty times between 1950 and 1966 but never received the award in his career.
