First edition of Carrier Admiral by Admiral J.J. “Jacko” Clark, USN, inscribed to Admiral Joseph F. Bolger, the hero of Battle of Leyte Gulf during World War II.

Octavo, xv, 3], 333pp. Blue cloth, title printed on spine. No additional printings noted. In the publisher’s near fine dust jacket, $6.95 on front flap, closed tear with tape repairs to verso. Bright illustrations. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: “To Admiral Joe Bolger, with best wishes from his flying partner and longtime friend. J.J. “Jacko” Clark. 5 October 1967.”

Vice Admiral Joseph F. Bolger, USN, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served in the Atlantic Fleet during World War I. During World War II, he commanded the fleet carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11), earning two Navy Crosses for his service. Post-war, he became the commissioning commanding officer of the USS Midway (CVB-41). He retired in 1953 with the rank of Vice Admiral and died in 1985.
