Incredibly scarce first edition of Elephant Haunts by Henry Faulkner.

Octavo, viii, [1]-325pp. Bound in green cloth boards with brown leather spine, newer endpapers. Title in gilt on red leather label affixed to spine, five raised bands with decorations stamped in blind. Includes frontispiece. Solid text block, light wear to corners, faint thumb-soiling to leaves throughout. Previous bookseller’s label affixed to rear pastedown endpaper. Previously held by the Birmingham Library, with associated stamp marks. Lacking half-title and ads at rear. (Czech 93) (Hosken 70) Rare in the first edition, most available copies are facsimiles from 1984.

In 1867, Henry Faulkner joined the expedition to Africa which was searching for the lost David Livingstone. During the trip, Faulkner hunted elephant, buffalo, and hippo in present day Malawi and Lake Nyasa. (Czech 93)
