My Story Of The War details the wartime activities of a journalist and social worker during the Civil War. It describes military hospitals in St. Louis, with descriptions of the sanitary conditions and her efforts to improve hygiene. She describes her meeting with Ulysses S. Grant before the battle of Vicksburg.
