George Henry Williams (1823-1910) had a prolific political career, serving as Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court from 1853-1858, US Senator from Oregon from 1871-1875, and US Attorney General from 1871-1875. In his time as Attorney General under President Ulysses S. Grant, Williams continued prosecutions that shut down the Ku Klux Klan and dealt with election disputes that frequently emerged during Reconstruction.
