Octavo, 8-volumes. Black leather, raised bands, title in gilt on spine. All gilt leaf ends. Marbled endpapers. Royal coat of arms bookplate affixed to front of Volume 1.
Signed by Queen Victoria to Prince Arthur: “To dearest Arthur, In the names of both his Parents Albert & Victoria R, in recollection of Sunday, Ap: 29, 1866, from his loving & sorrowing Mama, V.R., Osborn. Apr: 29, 1866.”
Comments: Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, was the 7th child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. In 1866, Arthur made his confirmation at Whippingham Church in Newport, Isle of Wright. During Albert’s military career, he served as Governor-General of Canada. Arthur was the last surviving son of Queen Victoria when he died in 1942.
