Description
First edition, first issue of Agatha Christie’s The Hound of Death and Other Stories, published in 1933.
Octavo, 247pp. Bound in three-quarter blue morocco with blue cloth boards. Five raised bands, title in gilt on spine. No additional printings on copyright page. Faint foxing along edges of text block, otherwise a fine example. Includes publisher’s original brown cloth spine bound in at rear.
Not available for purchase in shops, The Hound of Death and Other Stories was one of six promotional books obtained by collecting coupons found in the publisher’s weekly magazine, The Passing Show. Unlike Christie’s detective novels, many of the short stories found in this collection have a supernatural theme. Among the stories is the first book appearance of “The Witness for the Prosecution,” which was later adapted for film and television.
