First edition of The Journal of a Tour into the Territory Northwest of the Alleghany Mountains by Thaddeus Mason Harris, complete with all maps and plates.
Octavo, viii, [2], [11]-271pp, [maps]. Quarter tan leather with marbled boards, title in gilt on black morocco label on spine, decorative gilt bands. Occasional toning throughout, not affecting text in a significant way. Untrimmed pages, which vary in size and some with ragged edges. Interior hinges reinforced with archival tissue, overall binding is solid. Leather cracked and worn at corners. Closed tears to two leaves in the introduction. Pencil notations written on front free endpaper.
Complete with three folded maps, one plan, and a folded view of the mounds at Marietta, all with light foxing and toning, tissue reinforcement to verso of “Map of the State of Ohio,” otherwise sound.
