Octavo, 356pp. Tan cloth, title in black on spine, title and illustration stamped in green and black on front cover. Stated “Published in October, 1903” on copyright page. Solid text block, a few small marks to covers, light wear to hinges, a few bumped edges and corners. Full color frontispiece by C.D. Williams. A near fine copy of this posthumously published novel. Stephen Crane was a prolific American writer during the late 19th century. Most notable for his works in the “realist” tradition, he was an inspiration for writers throughout the 20th century, including Ernest Hemingway. He lived a short life, dying at the age of 28 in 1900.
