Octavo, 411pp. Original publisher’s green cloth, title in gilt on spine and front cover. Illustrations stamped in gilt and black on front cover. Binding State “A” with center rosette on spine 1/8″ below fillet. Solid text block, light wear to edges of covers, faint toning along top edge of leaves. Spine professionally rebacked, expert repairs to hinges. Previous ownership inscription in pencil to front flyleaf.
First edition with the Franklin Press imprint on copyright page. Second issue with “estate” corrected to “state” on page 124, line 1; “do not” corrected to “do” on page 263; and “reigned” corrected to “reined” on page 362.
