This copy is largely unopened. From a limited edition of 1000 copies, this being number 161, with stamp in 5mm font on colophon. Housed in custom black cloth clamshell, title on spine in gilt.
Publisher’s second state dust jacket, lacking the period after the text in the boxed announcement, salmon paper, $1.50 on spine, fine condition.
This issue of Waste Land is the second state text, with “mount in” on page 41 and the “a” is dropped from water on page 22. (Gallup A6a) A beautiful example.
First published in December of 1922, the first copies were issued with “mountain” spelled correctly on page 41, line 339; but in later copies, the “a” dropped out. The first 500 copies were printed on flexible cloth boards and the limitation stamp measures 5mm. A second impression followed in 1923, with the wording of the limitation statement revised to reflect a “Second Edition.”
