Description

Signed first edition of The Woodrow Wilsons by Eleanor “Nellie” Wilson McAdoo, the youngest daughter of President Woodrow Wilson. Additional signature by Mary Faith, the granddaughter of President Wilson.

Octavo, x, 301pp. Blue cloth, title stamped in gilt on spine. Stated “first printing” on copyright page. Light toning to endpapers, an otherwise fine example. In the publisher’s dust jacket, retail price on front flap, chipping at spine, a very good example. Signed on the front free endpaper by the youngest daughter of President Woodrow Wilson and his granddaughter.

Eleanor Wilson McAdoo (1889-1967) was the youngest daughter of President Woodrow Wilson and his first wife, Ellen Louise Axson. She married William Gibbs McAdoo, Wilson’s Secretary of the Treasury at a White House ceremony in 1914. Due to the age difference, the Wilson family did not approve of the marriage. Wilson and McAdoo both sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1920, but lost to Ohio Governor James M. Cox.
